Description

Freelance hitman, Will Robie, has a mission which takes him first to Edinburgh and then to Tangier. His task is to eliminate suspected enemies of the US government. But back in DC, when government employee and mother of two, Denise Tamaron, is detailed as his next target, Robie fails to pull the trigger. She's an unlikely victim, why does she pose a threat to national security?

Having failed in his mission, Robie needs to leave the scene fast. But it seems that he is not the only one who is on the run and in danger. On his escape from the city, he saves a young teenage girl from an unknown killer. She's too scared to reveal her true identity and why, if indeed she knows, there are those who want her dead.

The police investigating the deaths start to take an interest in Robie. And he's particularly attracting the attention of a tenacious female investigator who believes the two cases may be connected. Robie finds himself a fugitive in a dangerous position. Does he need to change sides to save lives - including his own?

Review quote

'One of the world's biggest-selling thriller writers, Baldacci needs no introduction ... Brilliant plotting, heart-grabbing action and characters to die for.' -- The Daily Mail 'Baldacci inhabits the skin of his creations - tripping us up with unexpected empathy and subtle identification.' -- Sunday Express 'Forget Fifty Shades of Grey - the page-turner of the season is The Innocent by David Baldacci ... The reader wants for nothing: there are car chases and shootouts, snipers and moles, safe houses and digestible bio-transmitters ... The tale starts at a blistering rate and accelerates through 100 short action-packed chapters ... this is Baldacci back at his best.' -- The Times

About David Baldacci

David Baldacci made a big splash on the literary scene with the publication of his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996. A major motion picture adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 27 novels, all of which have been national and international bestsellers; several have been adapted for film and television. His novels have been translated into more than 45 languages and sold in more than 80 countries; over 110 million copies are in print worldwide. David has also published three novels for children. David and his family live in Virginia. Ron McLarty began his career in theatre during the early 1970s. Although he enjoyed a successful career as an actor, he didn't have much luck finding a publisher for his novel The Memory of Running, until Stephen King happened upon an audiobook version (narrated by McLarty himself), and praised it as 'the best book you can't read'. This led to the book's publication, and its rapid rise to bestseller status. McLarty is an accomplished narrator - besides Running, he has provided the narration for a number of audiobooks, including Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Decision Points by George W. Bush. Orlagh Cassidy began her career at age 14 working at The Shakespeare Theatre at The Folger in Washington DC. She has performed on Broadway many times, including a lead role in Noel Cowards's Present Laughter with Frank Langella as well as covering Marcia Gay Harden and Hope Davis in the production of Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage. She is the award winning voice of many audiobooks as well as television and radio commercials.
