These contain, however, a great. Variety of adminis trative, statistical, biographical. And historical information, which it will be well at least occassronally to index in detail, in order that this material may the more readily be available for consultation. The present volume is the first essay in that direction. Commencing with the Executive Committee's Re port for 1874 (the 21st Report, presented at the 99d annual meeting, held January 2, 187 5) this Index continues through the transactions of the Society at its 49th annual meeting (december 12, Thus there have now been published a continuous series of indexes to the records of the Society from 1849 to 1901 inclusive: (1) Index to the Early Records (1849 in the reprint edition of volume i of the Collections; (2) indexes to the several synoptical Reports (1854 - 85) in the first. Ten volumes of the Collections; (3) the present index, covering all of the separately-publisln - ui Proceedings (1875 It is proposed to publish every five years a supple mental index, thus greatly adding to the usefulness of the Proceedings.
