An Index-Catalogue of Bibliographical Works (Chiefly in the English Language) Relating to India, 1897 : A Study in Bibliography (Classic Reprint)
Excerpt from An Index-Catalogue of Bibliographical Works (Chiefly in the English Language) Relating to India, 1897: A Study in Bibliography As one whose mother was a Metcalfe and whose father served many years in India, it is not unnatural that the Author should take a special interest in Indian life. But any such interest would have proved of little use in the present instance, had it not fallen to my lot, amid other duties, to have to examine closely many thousands of Indian official documents for purposes of cataloguing. The following work contains a record of the titles of those Works of Reference - frequently concealed in other works which I have met with in the course of the last ten years. The results are here printed in the hepe that they may prove of service to students of Indian History, and more especially to those to whom the prosperity of India is entrusted.
