Excerpt from Illustrations of the British Flora: A Series of Wood Engravings, With Dissections, of British Plants
The exhaustion of a large Edition of this work in the course of a few years is a gratifying proof of its utility to, and appreciation by, Students of Botany, and has encon raged the Publishers, in preparing a new Edition for the press, to endeavour to render it still more useful and worthy of the patronage it has already received. In the present Edition five new cuts have been added, and the whole have been rearranged according to the New Edition (the Fifth, just published) of Bentham's Handbook as revised by Sir J. D. Hooker. The Index has been greatly enlarged to facilitate reference from other Floras, and a new Index of English and popular names has been added. Lastly, to meet the convenience of Students of limited means, the price of this volume, and also of the Handbook, has been reduced from 123. To 103. 6d., the Publishers relying upon an increased sale to compensate them for the surrender thus made. In this volume and the Handbook com bined, therefore, Students will now have a complete Illus trated British Flora, the best, especially for beginners, for one guinea.
