Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Ian Oswald (born 1929) is a retired sleep researcher and psychiatrist. He received his school education in Belper, Derbyshire. He then went up to Caius College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a First class Honours degree in Psychology and undertook his further medical training in Bristol. He served in the RAF Medical Branch and subsequently was a Beit Memorial fellow at Oxford University and was awarded an MD for his research work. In 1959 he was appointed a lecturer in Psychological Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. Four years later he won the Gaskell Gold Medal and Prize in Psychiatry and in the same year graduated as a Doctor of Science from Edinburgh university. In 1965 he was made a senior lecturer. From 1965 to 1967 he was granted leave of absence to be Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Western Australia. In 1977 he was appointed to a personal Chair in Edinburgh University.
