Description

Despite digital technology dominating the way we communicate and record information, the stationery industry today is thriving, and is home to some of our most interesting examples of illustration and design. I Love Stationery is a luscious collection of the very best of these, from gift wrap to greetings cards, notebooks, journals, invitations and much more. Organised by technique, it covers hand-drawn illustrations, screen prints, letterpress, woodblock, digital illustration, calligraphy, spray paint, papercut, relief print and etchings. Each chapter begins with an explanation and tutorial on the specific technique featured, and includes an arresting array of lovely examples. Top tips and bite-sized interviews with stationery designers offer useful, practical advice on everything from paper choices to sustainability and how to approach manufacturers. Beautifully designed and in a gorgeous, take-anywhere small format, I Love Stationery is jam-packed with stunning notepaper, bags, wrapping paper and letter sets. It is a testament to the many designers and who' d rather send a letter than text or email, and to the crafters who prefer to put their thoughts in a journal than post a blog.

Our customer reviews

Don't get me wrong, I love stationary. There's something wonderful about new notepads and pens, especially in an age where everything is becoming more and more digital. I received this book as a gift and I honestly cannot see the point in it. To me it reads like 180 something pages of averts. I can understand the books that include materials and resources so you can have a go at making things, but this is just a load of pretty pictures. I honestly don't understand how a publisher ever thought this was a good idea. Have rated 1/5 simply because I can't give it a lower score.show more

I'm in lust. I want everything in this book! As a big stationery fan, I love how someone's come up with a book documenting the work of some of the designers and crafters who are making and selling stationery today. I Love Stationery is filled with an assortment of delicious eye candy that is sure to tempt stationery and paper lovers. The book is divided into different chapters each focused on a particular method or process: hand-drawn illustrations, screen-printing, letterpress printing, block printing, digital illustration, calligraphy, papercutting and collage/3D/sewn techniques. Each chapter starts with a short introduction to the process and the tools used for it. Then several creators are featured with a few sentences of texts and at least 2 photos of their work. One of the things I like best about the book is the description of how the designers go about executing their craft: whether they draw images by hand or digitally, what software, paper, inks, printers and other materials they use. Altogether, over 100 stationery makers (many of them small, independent stores) with a range of styles are showcased. There are contemporary as well as vintage-influenced or type-dominant designs. Author Charlotte Rivers has also included a resource section with links to the designers' web pages, the names and website addresses of paper suppliers, letterpress studios, screenprinters, arts and crafts shops, related trade shows and blogs. II love stationery. I love this book. Reading it is not just a joy, it's also temptation to buy (more) stationery, and inspiration to start making some (more) stationery of my own.show more
