VL Dr. Jonathan Metcalp (923), born at Lebanon, Conn., 27 June, 1787, eldest son of David Metcalf (196) and Anne Champion of L., was a great grandson of Samuel Hyde (4) of the third generation. lie received a medical education at Dartmouth college, and was a physician. He was a surgeon in the army on the western frontier in the war of 1812. He m. 26 Dec, 1814, Abigail Lucretia Root, b. 16 March, 1792, at South wick, Mass., daughter of Jeremiah Root and Lucretia Paige of Branford, Conn. They settled at Hudson, O., where they were living in 1859. Their children were: 3270. Harriet Maria, b. 24 Jan., 1817, at Hudson. She graduated at Granville Female seminary in 1835. She m. 26 June, 1837, Rev. James Shawr He graduated at the Western Reserve college, and at the Western Theological seminary, and was a clergyman. She d. 10 March, 1849, 'at Chicago. He was living at Newburgh, O., in 1859. She had one child, James Metcalf, b. 13 Feb., 1849. 3271. Carolina Melinda, b. 21 May, 1819, at Hudson. She gradu ated at Granville Female seminary in 1835. She m. 6 Sept., 1839, Rev. Thomas Barr, a graduate of the Western Reserve college, and of the Princeton Theological seminary, and was a clergyman. They were living at Canaan, O., in 1859. They had five children: 1. Emely Metcalf, b. 16 Feb., 1842. 2. Harriet Augusta, b. 9 June, 1845. 3. Joseph Addison, b. 6 April, 1849, d. 1 Jan., 1852. 4. Mary Eva, b. 15 Nov., 1853. 5.
