Review Text

Maeve Haran first arrived on the publishing scene with her bestselling novel Having It All, and her ability to examine the love life of the 'older woman' in a witty yet insightful way has gained her an enormous following. This is essentially a story of romance lost and found with a few challenges and giggles along the way. At the beginning Anne Wells is a lost soul - unhappily divorced with a dead-end job, her lack of social life and the challenge of raising two teenage children leaves her feeling depressed. Her ex-husband has not only remarried but is about to become the father of twins, and, to rub salt in the wound, he's running around in an ecstatic fatherly glow that was sadly missing when his first two children arrived in the world. Babies, however, are not the only things to arrive in pairs. After a prolonged period of 'dating drought' that leaves Anne resorting to lonely heart advertisements, two eligible men arrive in her life. One is a wealthy property developer who shares her love of art and the other a charming, widely liked project manager. Both are extremely attractive in their own way, but Anne must make a choice between the two and is determined not to fall in love with the wrong man again. The outcome will come as no real surprise, but all the same the reader can't help but get involved with Anne's tribulations. Haran's characters are vivid and colourful and this is immensely enjoyable holiday reading. (Kirkus UK)show more
