Review Text

Straight fiction, but built against the background the authors have made their own - the tropical islands of the South Seas. The focus on the hurricane, too, is based on personal experience, of a hurricane encountered during the research necessitated by the Bounty trilogy. The tremendous popularity of the picture - the impetus given to the sale of the books - should create a waiting market for this novel. It is the story of a youth, unjustly condemned to imprisonment, and through his rebellion turning a short sentence into a verdict of life imprisonment on a convict island. His escape and miraculous return to his own island home, results in the cooperation of virtually all the inhabitants to save him from recapture. And then comes the hurricane - and Fate weaves a new pattern for him and his. Good adventure tale, with a storm description rivalled only by Richard Hughes' brilliant High Wind in Jamaica (or The Innocent Voyage). (Kirkus Reviews)show more
