Review Text

Mr. Rudorff, who has written about Dracula and assorted other monsters, has thrown them in a casserole of black magic and Satanism but barely brung the old pot to a boil since this hokey narrative of possession - courtesy of a Hans Holzer called Walter Mayhew - goes on and on in the form of what he put together as a psychic investigator plus letters, statements and a final confession. All taking place in the London house of the Brandersons where wife, husband and children become ill, wake up looking vacant, and somehow infect everyone who comes in contact with them with their strange illness which is more communicable than measles. Horrors ensue - a murder here, a suicide there, and finally the battue taking the lives of all of the Brandersons. The "I can hardly bear to relate what happened next" is a direct challenge to the reader who if not convinced will find it the equivalent of Ovaltine straight up. (Kirkus Reviews)show more
