Hokkaido International Airlines, also known as Air Do is a Japanese low-cost airline. Headquartered in the ku Sapporo Building Ch -ku, Sapporo, Hokkaid, it operates between Tokyo and cities in Hokkaid . Its main base of operations is Tokyo International Airport in ta, Tokyo. The airline was established in 1996 and started operations in December 1998. The brainchild of a successful poultry farmer in Hokkaid, it is owned by Corporate rehabilitation fund, led by Development Bank of Japan, and individual investors. It has 700 employees. Air Do was one of Japan's first low-cost airlines. It originally competed with Japan's major domestic carriers, who lowered their fares to Air Do's level without seriously compromising corporate profits.
