III 1833 he came to Texas with his father, Capt. Jesse Wiitltins, and fznnily, loi-ating first near Clnrksville, in the Red river country, but ii short time later renioving to Nacogiloi-lies. lie was a minister of the Cumberland Presbytcriaii church, and had the distinction of being the first Protcstaiit preacher to be ordained in the Republic of Texas, this occurring at a meeting of the rarious organized interests engaged in that industry than any other man in Texas. It was Mr. lletlin who in 1896 took the lead in organizing the Texas Cotton Seed Crushers Association, and in 1398 a: -sistcd in organizing the Iiitcr-State Cotton Seed t_'rusheis Assoeintioii. Mr. Hetlin for several ye: ii."i served as vice president of the Texas Aisocizitioii, and accepted the presidency in 1908, and was vice prcsidi-iii of the.liitcr-State Association in 1910 and elected l!l'l'.'lllt'llt in 1911.
