The history of the Sz kely people, a Transylvanian subgroup of the Hungarians, spans nine centuries, although many historians consider that the formation of the Sz kely people had taken place before the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin in 895-896. At the end of the 12th century, in a chronicle called Gesta Hungarorum, the notary of Hungarian King B la IV wrote about the conquest of Hungary about 300 years earlier. He said that the Hungarians and Sz kelys had common roots. The invading Hungarians, led by rp d, according to legend a descendant of Attila the Hun, met the Sz kelys, who also used to be the people of Attila, in southern Hungary. The Sz kelys then joined the Hungarians in fighting together against the enemies of rp d.show more
