He came to Red Wing, Minn., in 1856; became pastor in 1858, at Spring Garden and Cannon River, where he stayed for ten years. He then received a call from the Swedish Lutheran congregations in Swift county, Minn. He was married in 1854. Bendeke, Karl, physician and surgeon--Minneapolis--born 1841, in Kristiania, Norway. After going through the regular old country college course, he was admitted to the University of Norway as a student in 1859. He studied medicine there from 1863-68, when he was appointed surgeon on board an emigrant vessel which brought him to this country. He settled first in Chicago where he practised his profession for two years, moved then to Minnesota in 1870 and to Minneapolis in 1875, where he has since resided. Bendeke has at different times visited foreign medical institutions for the purpose of extending his studies in certain medical specialties, principally diseases of the eye and ear. In 1877 he visited the eye clinics of London and Paris; in 1881 attended the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary for three months, and in 1891 spent about the same length ot time at the university clinics of Berlin, Germany, where he studied the most modern methods of research and treatment in the various branches of medicine and surgery. His professional skill in conjunction with his long residence in the country has naturally given him a reputation as one of the leading Scandinavian physicians of the Northwest. Bennet, C.
