Excerpt: ...shall continue a Burgess for and during their natural lives unless in the meantime for bad governing or ill behaviour or for not inhabiting and staying within the said Borough they or any of them shall be thence removed. And further grant that the said Bailiff and Burgesses shall have power and authority from year to year for ever upon the 29th of September to assemble and meet together in any convenient place within the said Town and elect a fit man of the Burgesses who being so elected shall be Bailiff and continue in office for one year provision is made for election of Bailiff or Burgess in the case of death. And we give and grant to the said Bailiff and Burgesses free and lawful power to have receive and take to them any Manors, Messuages, Lands &c within our kingdom or elsewhere within our dominions, so as such Manors &c to be had purchased or received do not exceed in all the clear yearly rent of 50/. And further we will and by our abundant special grace and favour we have given to the aforesaid Bailiffs and Burgesses that they shall have, hold and keep within the Borough towards the sustenance.... and relief of the poor Inhabitants thereof a Market to be holden there upon the Thursday weekly and every week for ever, and also a fair to be kept yearly to begin upon the Vigil or Eve of St Peter and Paul the Apostles and continue two days viz the said eve the said Feast of St Peter and St Paul and also another Fair to be holden yearly on Vigil or Eve of St Martin the Bishop in Winter to continue for two days in the usual Market or Fair place and upon the several days heretofore kept and now to us surrendered which said surrender we have accepted together with the Court of Piepowder in the time of the several Fairs more
