ST. JAMES' HOSPITAL, CHICAGO HEIGH TS, ILLINOIS (For photograph see page 323) The medical profession of Chicago Heights for several years prior to 1910 had felt the need of a hospital in that city. Several propositions had been considered and attempts had been made to interest different organizations, but a real start was not made until about the year 1909. At that time a proposition developed to establish a municipal hospital and considerable money was pledged by the local medical profession and other philanthropic citizens. The effort seemed doomed to failure on account of inability to raise sufficient funds....
