The course is an oval of two miles, all but a distance, and quite flat; the last half mile, straight. SALOP. Bishop's Castle, l9 miles from Ludlow, 20 from Shrewsbury, and l57 from London, and containing l,880 inhabitants. One day's inferior racing about the middle of July. Bridgenorth, on the river Severn, 20 miles from Shrewsbury, and l40 from London, containing 4,096 inhabitants. This town contains a theatre, assembly rooms, library, &c. The races are held in the beginning of August, and continue two days. The course has become much damaged, from being let out to different tenants during the interval, who divide it by moveable fences. First day.--A Sweepstakes of 5 sovs. each, with l5 added, &c. The Patshull Stakes of l0 sovs. each. The Members' Plate of 50. Second day.--A Gold Cup, in specie, by subscription of l0 sovs. each. The Members' Plate of 50. The Hunters' Stakes, &c. Ludlow.--This town is pleasantly situated on an eminence near the confluence of the rivers Teme and Corve, 29 miles from Shrewsbury, and l40 from London, and contains 4,820 inhabitants. It contains a small theatre, which is opened by the Worcester company, during the races; a public subscription library, and two circulating libraries; and assemblies are held in a suite of rooms in the market-house. The races, which have been established here nearly 50 years, are now held towards the middle of July, and continue two days.
