In all of the history of the world there scarce ever has been a more complete and sickening fiasco than America's closing up of this Great War. America is not yet at peace with her enemy, though a year and a half has gone by since the armistice was signed! America has deserted her allies in the making of peace, though those allies honored her by granting almost every request she made! And America has let fall upon the other nations the responsibility of the reconstruction, a task of little less difficulty and no less peril than the war itself. To drop the treaty and simply to vote a resolution declaring that we are at peace, as some in the Senate now want to throughout its entiie history. So that we cannot understand the psychology of any man who can be in love with the Christian Church and its fundamental thesis, and at the same time be indifferent to the Interchurch Movement. There is no other denomination whose pastors should be more ardently and enthusiastically at the front in every interchurch and union movement than our own. But finally, if all of this is not sufficient, there is still another compelling fact. The great progressive element of the church of Jesus Christ to-day is moving with the Interchurch Movement. It is altogether too large a force under God for any one man or any one denomination to balk it.
