Review Text

Probably one of the wildest go-for-broke detective novels of the year, this features in its all star cast of kooks: Pinky, a milk white Negro albino giant junkie; Sister Heavenly, a heroin and religion pusher; her ex-lover and chief flunky Uncle Saint; two of the blackest, fastest and most formidable detectives Harlem has ever seen - Grave Digger and Coffin Ed and (a brief appearance) Jake, a hunchback dwarf. Then there's an assortment of others who pile up behind each other as we flash through the Harlem and New York scene in search of the "treasure"... a $250,000,000 shipment of the big H. Rarely have such hiding places been thought of and searched and seldom have so many people (twelve corpses) gone to their deaths in such flamboyant ways. But then it's not often that you see a milk white Negro albino giant junkie neatly disguised in black paint or hear of two colored cops suspended for beating a white dwarf H-pusher to death. And Sister Heavenly is a character that one does not easily forget. It's madmadness for the very very cool and it helps if you have a strong stomach. There have been others in this series not reviewed here heretofore. (Kirkus Reviews)show more
