He sailed for Europe in October, 1858, and passed two years in Germany, much of the time at the universities. Returning to America in November, 1860, he spent the winter in Washington as private secretary to his father, then a member of the House of Representatives. In 1861, Mr. Adams was appointed Minister to the Court of St. James; and the family removed to England in April.
