(0) In dumping wheel scrapers try not to dump when the mules are on ground that is lower than the scraper, as by doing this it brings a tremendous load on the mules' necks. (7) So direct the work that the loaded teams will have the shortest haul and the empty teams if necessary may have a much longer haul, but in no case should the empty haul be unnecessarily long. It is better to let the mule team stand still to rest than to let it cover unnecessary ground. This seems like a simple rule, but its violation has often been observed on several different jobs. (8) See that the scrapers are spaced as even a distance apart as possible. This will make the work lighter on the mules, easier on the drivers and will tend to avoid confusion.
