Hamilton railway station opened 1872 and is located in Hamilton, a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The station is an interchange between CityRail Newcastle & Central Coast line and Hunter line services. These services go to Sydney, Maitland, Dungog and Scone. Hamilton Station has two side platforms. Platform 1 can accommodate six carriages. Passengers on eight car Newcastle-bound trains are still required to use the rear six carriages. Platform 2 now holds eight carriages. Prior to the Newcastle-end extension of platform 2 in 2007, eight car trains were required to enter Beaumont Street level crossing and stop outside the signal box.
