Gymnothorax rueppellii is a moray eel found in coral reefs in the Pacific and Indian oceans.It was first named by McClelland in 1844, and is commonly known as the Banded moray, Banded reef-eel, R ppell's moray, R ppell's moray eel, Black barred eel, Yellow-headed moray eel, or the Yellow-headed moray.Moray eels are cosmopolitan eels of the family Muraenidae. The approximately 200 species in 15 genera are almost exclusively marine, but several species are regularly seen in brackish water and a few, for example the freshwater moray can sometimes be found in freshwater.
