Review Text

Capriciously sized slabs of rumination about old age conned into unmetered, unlicensed verse - but certain home truths may tickle the elderly fancy whether or not humor is intended. "Preserve me from the occupational therapist, God," which begins a sad little item about a grieving widow, might strike a golden note for some. "I love [my grandchildren] dearly/ But they're messy and noisy," will be for many, ne'er so well expressed. And for the nursing home resident, one piece compares escape from such with the flight of the children of Israel from Egypt. The poems take up the predicaments, fears, small pleasures, and revelations of old age - with a straightforward religious emphasis. Given the recognition factors, this may be a sleeper among seniors undeterred by the vapid treatment. (Kirkus Reviews)
