Goodbyes and Bons Dias : Changing Direction in a Changing Country...
'Castles', 'Knights Templar', 'The City of Learning', 'Beaches & Ski-resorts', 'Wine & Olives' "Portugal bacame a part of our lives because neither of us had been there, and we wanted a place that held no history for us..." 'Goodbyes and Bons Dias - Changing direction in a changing country', tells the story of an English couple who changed the direction in which their lives were going by moving from London to a small village in rural Portugal. Each chapter begins with a snippet of an idea or event that appears in context as the month unrolls. Arranged in this way, a description of the changing landscape provides a backdrop in front of which relationships with old and new friends play out. Tensions brought about by being in a foreign country and unable to communicate due to a tongue which was alien, meant that Stephen and I needed to rely upon each other, and for two people who were obstinately independent this brought its own pressures and realisations. 'Goodbyes and Bons Dias' tells of our small triumphs and the kindness we found, and above all the story is a tale about truly living.
