Gonabad or, not to be confused with Gonbad-e Qabus, is a city and sub-province in the province of Razavi Khorasan, Iran. It is mostly well-known because of the Gonabadi Dervishes and for its qanats, also known as kareez. It is one of the most important producers of saffron in Iran. Other agricultural products include: Grape, Pistachio and pomegranate. The main towns in the Gonabad sub-province are Bajestan, Kakhk, Beedoukht(Beydokht), and the main villages are Zeebad (Zeabad), Mend, Seno, Belond, and Desfan. The famous ancient war of 12 rokh had happened between Iran and Turan (west China) in this city on the castle of Zeebad. The city contains the cemetery for the Nematollahi Gonabadi dervish order located in Beydokht.
