This is a delightful collection of memories from the golden age of cinema in Manchester. Filled with archive images, it recalls courting days and war-time air raids, the stars, the staff and all the magic of the silver screen.

'When my husband and I were courting, we used to go to the Rivoli cinema in Gorton. It was a very big old cinema, and we soon learned that it was advisable to keep your feet up on the seat in front. It was not unusual, if you kept your feet on the floor, for "things" to run over your feet. You never knew what they were, just that they were there. We once went to the Rivoli when he had broken his ankle and had his foot in plaster. Naturally, he could not put his foot up on the seat in front. The toes were the only thing showing on the foot with the broken ankle, and, while the film was on, he could feel some "thing" running over his bare toes.'
