Throughout his life, the quest for truth and understanding has compelled author Ramana Das. As a child, the family guru counseled Das to complete his secular education and assured him that "a time will come when a guru will find you." So Das followed the guru's instruction and dove headlong into the world of science, spending years first training and then practicing as a surgeon. Despite the emphasis on science in his education, Das still felt himself drawn to the truths found in world religions, even though they often left him with many questions unanswered. In" Of God, Life, and Death," Das tackles these questions using both his scientific training and the power of the answers he has found within himself. With wisdom and insight, Das addresses such thorny topics as the injustices of life, the effectiveness of prayer, and the scientific explanations behind visions and miracles. Drawing from his years of study of some of the greatest New Age teachers and thinkers, Das opens doors to acceptance and understanding that previously seemed bolted shut-and invites readers to walk through and into the truth with him.show more

About MD Ramana Das

As a young child, Ramana Das grew up going to temples, study groups, and lectures with his grandmother. Das trained to become a physician, becoming board-certified in general surgery in the Unites States and Canada and obtaining "Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada." Das then went on to practice general and vascular surgery for nearly thirty-five years. In the late 1980s, Das stumbled upon a lecture by a swami, a disciple of Swami Chinmayananda. He attended many lectures by both Swami Chinmayananda and Swami Tejomayananda, the current head of Chinmaya Mission. Das also started a systematic study of Vedanta, starting with the basics before moving on to Bhagavad Gita and the entire major and some minor Upanishad. Studying and listening to lectures captivated Das but left him with questions. Das now believes the answers to these questions must come from within.show more
