Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don\'t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach\'s verses perfectly capture the familiar and unspoken tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity. With illustrations by Ricardo Cortés, Go the Fuck to Sleep is beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny. A book for parents new, old, and expectant. You should NOT, however, read it to your children.

Total genius -- Jonathan Lethem, author of MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN, father of two Beautiful, brilliant, funny as fuck. A new Contented Little Baby Book for the discontented parent -- Helen Walsh, author of GO TO SLEEP, mother of one This is the most honest children's book ever written. And it's f*cking hilarious -- A.J. Jacobs, author of THE YEAR OF LIVING BIBLICALLY, father of three An instantly recognisable and timeless theme tune for bleary-eyed parents everywhere - a hymn to the horrors of bedtime. Beautifully crafted, rhythmical, affectionate, profane and searingly honest, it is very funny. -- Alex Frean * * Times * * A gleeful howl of blasphemy ... for the exhausted parent, nudged to the brink of sanity by lack of sleep, GTFTS is more than a reason to snigger - it's a gesture of compassion. -- Benjamin Secher * * Daily Telegraph * * Bedtime stories will never be the same again -- Viv Groskop * * The Guardian * * A children's book for grown-ups! I really did laugh out loud - hilarious! -- David Byrne, musician, father of one The secret anthem of tired parents everywhere -- Bliss Boyard, author of ONE DROP: MY FATHER'S HIDDEN LIFE, mother of two Hilariously funny, it gets the tone bang on - and it's comforting to know bedtime is a universally fraught experience. * * News of the World * * It subverts accepted notions of what is meant by 'good' parenting ... a clever conceit, executed with panache * * The Lady * * Beautifully illustrated... a bonding experience for exhausted parents for generations to come * * Belfast Telegraph Evening * * Finally, someone tells it like it really is. Samuel L. Jackson did a 'book on tape' recording of this book. It had me in tears from laughter.show more

I was really looking forward to this book as I'm a bit of a potty mouth myself but found the overuse of the word a little too much. I personally would have saved it for the last page. Great idea and so true to real life (my memories of my kids anyhow) just not as well executed as it could be. I did laugh out loud about the rest of the book especially about getting drinks, etc. Wouldn't buy it though, got it out the library with a view to buying for a friend but it didn't quite live up to the hype.show more

I don't understand some of the reviews. There is nothing even vaguely abusive about this book. It's funny and it rhymes. What's the problem?show more

What does it say about the state of publishing and the reading public that a book as feeble as this is a bestseller? It has only one idea, and that one is so very obvious, so commonplace. We sometimes have dark thoughts about our offspring, especially when chronically sleep deprived or stressed - who would have thought?! Oh, but it's so politically incorrect, so daring, so subversive! Give me a break.show more

Some of you have obviously misplaced your sense of humour!! This book is lighthearted and funny and in know way meant to be used as a tool to get your kids to sleep! As for parenting advise from other reviewers what a joke! I love this book, dont swear at my children and infact never let them know my frustration even though miss five has not slept a night through since she was born! I quiet often put her back to bed for the millionth time and curse "go the F***k to sleep" when I return to my bed/lounge. Lighten up people :)show more
