Excerpt: ...this Act, shall be construed to affect any county wherein at an election to be held not less than thirty days prior to the first day of September, 1906, a majority of the qualified voters of such county voting thereon shall vote in favor of a continuance of the community system within said county. An election for that purpose shall be' ordered by the commissioners court upon the petition of fifty qualified vote1s of said county, and notice of such election shall be given and the election shall be conducted and held at such places and in such manner as the commissioners court of the county shall determine. Returns of said election shall be made to the commissioners court within five days after said election, and shall be canvassed by said court and the result thereof declared and entered of record in the minutes of said court. If at said election a majority of the votes cast were cast in favor of a continuance of the community system in said county, thereafter said county shall continue to be operated under such system, and the said county and any and all school communities therein heretofore or hereafter to be established, and the'boards of trustees of such school communities shall have and exercise all the rights, powers and privileges, and shall assume all the duties now conferred and imposed by general laws upon counties operating under the community system and the school communities therein and the boards of trustees thereof; and as to any and all such counties as shall vote as herein provided to continue in force the operation of the community system therein, all general laws of this State now in force regulating the operation of the community system shall be and are hereby continued in force, anything in this Act to the...show more
