April, 1873, he married (2nd) a Mrs. Turner (656) of San Francisco. No issue. Lorence Painter (642) was a public spirited man and greatly respected in the community. He gave liberal and substantial aid to the whole country surrounding, took the initiative in building and maintaining public highways and schools, in proeurng a steam railway for the Eel River Valley, in establishing voting precincts, past offices and all public improvements.
