Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Gelao is a dialect cluster of Kra languages in the Kradai language family, spoken by the Gelao people in China and Vietnam. However, many people of the Gelao ethnic group no longer speak this language. Despite being the traditional language of an ethnic group that numbers around 500,000, the total number of Gelao speakers is estimated to be 3,000 according to a 1999 estimate by Chinese linguist Li Jinfang, of which 500 are monolinguals. The language has not been very well attested, having only been studied by a few scholars such as Jerold A. Edmondson, Weera Ostapirat, Zhang Jimin, and Li Jinfang. Recently, a book allegedly written in a native Gelao script has been found in Guizhou, China. It is not known whether this find is authentic or more
