Review Text

Another gimmicky entry from the author of Listen for the Click - featuring ESP-gifted Rachel Hennings, who has inherited her Uncle Oscar's used book shop in Los Angeles. . . and is soon involved in the murder of writer Ransom Blaisdell. Blaisdell, it seems, was the real author behind a string of bestsellers supposedly penned by famous, vain Arlen Kitchener: before he was murdered, he may have given the late Uncle Oscar manuscript-proof of that ghostwriting. So, while Kitchener and his agent try to keep that deception a secret (for obvious and not-so-obvious reasons), Rachel turns sleuth - especially after the murder of Blaisdell's old friend Marvin, who was determined to find the manuscript. And a potent motive for both murders does finally surface. . . thanks to Rachel's supernatural panache. As with Listen for the Clink: good character-sketching (nasty Kitchener, Rachel's likable newsman-boyfriend), but humdrum reading overall - especially for those not susceptible to paranormal doings.
