Friendship with the other religions-relations-attitudes
This is a book about friendship. Friendship with the Other and the related attitudes and behaviour. The book would never have been written but for an international conference organized by the European Association of Women for Theological Research (ESWTR) held on 24–27 August 2014 in Gniezno, Poland’s first capital city. It hosted a reflection on friendship defined as an extremely close, individual relationship with the Other: another person, the world including oneself and particularly with God. The discussion triggered off scientific reflections and debates but also artistic meetings, developing new contacts and strengthening the existing ones. The volume, divided into five parts, starts with a view on friendship from the Biblical perspective: the Old and the New Testament. Chapter two, an extended one, presents a wide range of historical research into friendship. It represents various religions and Christian denominations, attitudes and approaches. Part three, a systematic one, includes texts bordering on philosophy, systematic theology, preparing the readers for articles included in chapter four. The latter shows the practical applications of reflections on friendship in the context of social, church and political life in Central and Eastern Europe. The book finishes with an artistic part which presents the issues of otherness, including the artistic otherness which accompanied authors and their work at the conference in a spiritual and material way alike.
