He was born in Morocco, lived in Malaga, and went to high school in Madrid, Spain. Stephenson is a graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Stephenson spent 11 years at BMW, where he worked on the Mini and the BMW X5. He is best known for the design of the 2001 MINI. He moved to Ferrari in July 2002, working on the Maserati MC12 and Ferrari F430. He also oversaw Pininfarina's work on the Maserati Quattroporte and Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. He was appointed to head of Fiat, Lancia, and Commercial Vehicle Styling Centre in Turin, Italy on February 22, 2005. While there he headed the styling of the new Fiat Nuova 500. On June 2007 he was appointed to Alfa Romeo style chief replacing Wolfgang Egger, while Donato Coco took over his previous position.
