The Franco-Syrian War was a war from 1919 to 1921 between Syria and France. France conquered Syria; King Faisal, who was declared king of Greater Syria, was exiled to the United Kingdom. The British government, concerned for their position in the new mandate in Iraq, agreed to declare Faisal the new king of Iraq. Greater Syria was divided into two mandates: French Mandate of Syria and Lebanon and the British mandate of Palestine, including autonomous Transjordan.
