shedkm's approach: "Take the problem, expose the parts, put together a solution based on simplicity, logic, style - be enthusiastic - keep to modernist principles and enjoy architecture." framework is about the way things come together, both mechanically and in terms of how materials are employed in any given project. Advocating a fresh ethos in an architectural arena largely dominated by commercial pressure shedkm are known for their award-winning, high profile and successful urban renewal projects, including RIBA and Civic Trust awards. Recent work featured in framework includes a headquarters building for a pharmaceutical company, a large modern country house and the re-generation of the Dunlop rubber factory near Birmingham - all of which display their clear expression of modernist principles, limited colour palette (yellow and blue remain favourites) and concentration on the plan forms generated by strong geometries. A departure from the conventional monograph format framework touches on shedkm's response and engagement with iconic works of modern and contemporary architecture and design, such as Jacobsen's Egg Chair and Le Corbusier's Unite, as well as comprising found imagery and texts from a variety of inspirational sources. "Simple, sharp, elegant - minimal use of colour and texture - direct easily read plans. We try very hard to be 'style less', but are pleased if a building can be recognised as 'shedkm'."
