Description

Dieting is a popular hobby in the 21st century and the diet industry has been more than happy to offer us thousands of weight loss solutions every year. As predicable failures add up year after year, it is time to rethink our approach to dieting and more importantly to food. "Foodist" is a manifesto about real food and real science designed for you to create a personalized path to lasting weight loss. But unlike typical diets that give you restrictive lists of what you can and can't eat, this book focuses on your most frequent food choices and helps you restructure them for optimal health and enjoyment. You'll get specific instructions on how to set up your home, office and living environment to maximize the number of healthy choices you make each day, freeing you to be selective for those indulgences that are the most worthwhile. "Foodist" will also teach you how and when to shop for groceries, basic food prep and cooking skills, and how to pick the right restaurants and make smart menu choices. Better food choices do not need to be complicated and can be integrated into even the busiest of schedules.
A foodist simply has a different way of looking at food, and makes decisions with a clear understanding of how to optimize health and happiness. This is not a new diet, and you will never need to look for one again.

Back cover copy

Foodist is a manifesto about real food and real science that proves once and for all that sustainable weight loss is possible by incorporating fresh, seasonal--and delicious--ingredients into every meal.

If you picked up this book, there's a good chance this is not the first time you hoped a new eating plan would help you lose weight. Dieting is a popular hobby in the twenty-first century, and the result is typically a slow but steady weight gain over the years. Oops. Diets fail because they rely on willpower and restriction for achieving health goals, and ignore the reasons these tactics always backfire. Becoming a foodist helps you give up dieting forever and get on the real path to healthy, lasting weight control.

Foodist is an approach that actually celebrates food while taking you through the nutrition and psychology involved in eating well to help you move beyond the daily obstacles and bad habits that keep the tasteless, empty, and unsatisfying food-like products on your plate. Losing weight no longer has to be about sacrifice, deprivation, and willpower, and food will turn from something you fight into something you can actually love again. As Darya writes, "You don't need a diet. You need an upgrade."

Smart, accessible, and engaging, Foodist will help you tailor your eating habits to match your lifestyle and your food preferences, making sure the path you choose works for you in the short- and long-term. Not only will you permanently build healthier habits into your daily life, you'll lose weight and enjoy food like never before.

Review quote

"Darya is my favorite kind of scientist--she finds the simple in the complex, the beauty in the chaos. If anyone will make you love (and rediscover) food, it's her." -- Tim Ferriss "In Foodist, Darya Pino gives the most sensible advice I've read about attaining and maintaining healthy weight without dieting. Her science-based approach tells you how to enjoy real food, make the best food choices, and not deny yourself the pleasures of eating. I recommend this book." -- Andrew Weil, M.D.
