On his release from gaol, all Patrick Flanagan wanted was a good woman, a family and a peaceful life. Then he heard the call that reverberated around the world. Gold! Leaving Moreton Bay behind, he jumps aboard The Cumberland to work for his passage to the goldfields. On the voyage he befriends Fergus, an old sailor at the crossroads of new technology. Together the pair jump ship in Melbourne and head towards the Ballarat Goldfields to make their fortune. But, their dreams of easy riches are soon shattered as they not only battle the elements and the elusive nature of the gold, but also corrupt administrators and brutal law enforcement officers of the Colony, including an old acquaintance of Patrick's. As the group struggle to make a living from the unforgiving earth, events move inexorably towards a fateful collision between the authorities and goldminers, testing the loyalties of the group and finding Patrick on the frontline facing Government forces as they emerge from the early morning mist.

About Warwick O'Neill

Soldier, mechanic, larrikin, adventurer, sound and lighting technician, security guard, car wash manager and historian ... just a few words that adequately sum up author, Warwick O'Neill. He has certainly lived his life in vivid Technicolor, and he doesn't intend on that colour fading any time soon. Always receptive to another rollicking adventure, O'Neill's passion truly lies in Australian History and writing, the two of which he has married beautifully in his first novel - Flames of Rebellion, a fictional tale set amongst a real life backdrop of the Victorian Goldfields and the Eureka Stockade. O'Neill painstakingly researched the era and the real characters that lived during the time. From newspaper articles, to diary entries, he immersed himself in this historic world to create an un-put-down-able tome, which actually features some real life characters and events woven cleverly throughout the story. He currently resides in Brisbane with his partner, twenty year old son, two teenage daughters, a couple of dogs, a few budgies and his beloved Land Cruiser, Rusty.
