Extending his repertoire for the guitar, Skempton this time introduces it into the realm of a chamber ensemble in the form of five miniatures. By using the lower ranges of the clarinets and strings, the guitar is able to sail above their delicate accompaniments, paying homage to the romance exemplified by a nocturne. Commissioned by Bath International Guitar Festival (Tom Kerstens) and first performed on 30 July 2000 at the Michael Tippett Centre, Bath, performed by Composers Ensemble/Peter Wiegold/Tom more
