The Fire Gospel
Theo Gripenkerl is a modest academic wtih an Olympian ego. When he visits a looted museum in Iraq, looking for treasures he can ship back to Canada, he finds nine papyrus scrolls that have lain hidden for 2000 years. Once translated from Aramaic, these prove to be the fifth gospel, written by an eye-witness of Jesus Christ's last days.

Praise for the works of Michel Faber: "Irresistibly readable." --"The Sunday Times on "The Crimson Petal and the White"An intensely imaginative time-travel experience." --"The Independent "on The Crimson Petal and the White"Faber's writing is chaste, dryly humorous and resolutely moral. . . . A remarkable novel." --"The New York Times" on Under the Skin"By turns crepuscular, buoyant, delicate, wry, horrific, otherworldly, this worldly and organ-rupturingly funny collection is a vitamin-boost for the British short-story." --David Mitchell on The Fahrenheit Twins"A real triumph." --"The Guardian" on Under the Skin"Where Faber's imagination will take us next is anyone's guess." --"GQ" "From the Hardcover edition."
