Eighteen-year-old maid Tess Davies is determined to escape the wealthy, troubled family she serves. It's 1912, and Tess has been trapped in the employ of the Lisles for years, amid painful memories and twisted secrets. But now the Lisle family is headed to America, with Tess in tow. Once the ship they're sailing on--the RMS Titanic--reaches its destination, Tess plans to strike out and create a new lifefor herself.

Her single-minded focus shatters when she meets Alec, a handsome first-class passenger who captivates her instantly. But Alec has secrets of his own. He's in a hurry to leave Europe, and whispers aboard the ship say it's because of the tragic end of his last affair with the French actress who died so gruesomely and so mysteriously. . . .

Soon Tess will learn just how dark Alec's past truly is. The danger they face is no ordinary enemy: werewolves exist and are stalking him--and now her, too. Her growing love for Alec will put Tess in mortal peril, and fate will do the same before their journey on the Titanic is over.

In Fateful, New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray delivers paranormal adventure, dark suspense, and alluring romance set against the opulent backdrop of the Titanic's first--and last--voyage.

About Claudia Gray

Claudia Gray is the pseudonym of New Orleans-based writer Amy Vincent, the author of the New York Times bestselling Evernight series. She has worked as a lawyer, a journalist, a disc jockey, and an extremely poor waitress. Her grandparents' copy of Mysteries of the Unexplained is probably the genesis of her fascination with most things mysterious and/or inexplicable.

Our customer reviews

Also reviewed on my blog, The Vintage Bookworm (www.vintagebookworm.blogspot.com) I love Claudia Gray and I love the Titanic. The Titanic is one of my favorite movies. So when I saw that Gray was releasing a new book involving the Titanic AND werewolves, which is one of my top most favorite paranormal creatures, I knew I had to read it. Claudia Gray is already on my list of authors to watch, even though I still haven't finished the Evernight series. Fateful was amazing. The first time I tried to read it was the end of December and I was in a reading slump, I only read a few pages and couldn't get into it. But when I picked it up this time I was sucked in. I read it pretty quickly. The writing sucked me in and the descriptions were amazing. I definitely felt like I was in Tess's shoes as a servant to a rich family back in the early 1900's. There were also a lot of similarities with the Titanic movie, but just the right amount. It felt like the whole Titanic atmosphere you get when you watch the movie. Add in the werewolves and its extra awesome. I loved Tess, she was a great main character. Nothing that I can remember really bothered me about her which is good. The only people I really had problems with was Lady Regina's family. Which I'm pretty sure most people have issues with. It's supposed to be that way. I also really loved Myriam and, of course, Alec. *swoon* Why didn't I read this last year? I wanted to so bad. Stupid TBR lists! I could have known about Alex a lot sooner if it weren't for it. Just like the Titanic movie, this book made me cry. When the ship sunk, all the chaos, it made me cry so hard. My husband was staring at me all crazy. Overall, I loved this book. I loved it so much that I really wish there were a sequel, but there most likely won't be. But I'll be hoping! Also, I think I want to start a petition to get this at least considered to be made into a movie! If you love the Titanic, and you love werewolves; I would definitely recommend it to you. Even if you just love the Titanic. This is definitely a fresh new take on it.show more
