In the elegant setting of the Pinacoteca San Domenico, thanks to the restoration of the church of the same name by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fano, the exhibition unfolds on the theme of the 17th century art market. In addition to the two works owned by the Fondazione, Agar and the angel and the Madonna of the rose, which were very successful subjects and variously reproduced, there are exhibited, in pairs, some remarkable examples of replicas and popular variations on Cantarini's designs.
An unpublished contribution on the same theme is the rich selection of etchings by the artist, which madehis designs more readily available. The three altar-pieces conserved in the Civic Museum are especially notable, with the Saint Peter healing the crippled at the centre, painted for the Oratorian church of San Pietro in Valle and Cantarini's absolute masterpiece. The itinerary ends with a visit to the city museum, where there are many of the works that inspired the artist, in particular when he was working for San Pietro in Valle, first among which is the much loved Annunciation by Guido Reni, but also the "Caravaggesque" altarpieces by Giovan Francesco Guerrieri.
