My short story "Allured" is part of this teen vampire anthology, so I may be a bit biased.
These stories run the gamut from an old fashioned feel (small village with a midwife) to dangerous streets teeming with vampires to a post-apocalyptic future. My story was the only to take place in a contemporary high school. The settings ranged from homes to farms to villages to forests to cities.
A few of my favorites (which all seem to be the later ones):
The Soul Collector by Kirsty Ferry had an old feel but a nice twist. Who's actually in control?
Dating Game by Alyson Hilbourne was a fun one. Makes you think twice about being a patient in a hospital with a vampire nurse.
Into Dust by Shoshana Rowse might actually make you rethink your relationship to farm animals and how far you'd go to survive.
Body, Life, and Soul by Jules May makes you wonder if you'd choose immortality in the face of disease.
A Quiet Weekend by Raymond Little turns the hunters and hunted on its head.
But there was something I liked about all the stories. None were predictable. Many were plenty scary. A few were a bit gory (what do you expect from vampires, after all). These are vampire stories that use the rules of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Most of them are dark. No sparkles here. You won't be disappointed. The more stories I read, the more I liked the anthology.show more
