Covering the period between 330CE and 1453CE, this text offers the opportunity to explore this fascinating empire and to understand the central role of Christianity in its development. The author begins by providing an outline of the history and structure of the Byzantine Church, and then looks at key aspects of its outward expression, including liturgy and daily worship; doctrine; monasticism; icons and iconoclasm; architecture, art and iconography; relations with the western Church; and mission and expansion. The book ends by assessing the lasting legacies of the Byzantine Church, especially in the areas of liturgy, spirituality and more
