In this article and the preceding one an effort has been made to show the processes of thought in analyzing the high spots of two important elements of a business-sales and production. The processes are not necessarily the right ones or the best ones. Each man's mind is different and every analyst approaches the sub ject from a different slant. The interminable problems of management are of course not alluded to. All that is attempted is a method of thinking in principles--not in details. In a later article applications of this method of thinking to cost problems will be considered. Dividing the assigned output for the month into weeks, or quarter months, we have a weekly schedule for shipment in September of 250 units. Returning to our basic schedule, we observe that for ordinary parts such as forgings, stampings, castings and the like, the purchase requisitions should be placed 90 days or three months ahead. On this basis, the requisitions for the general run of material should be placed three months ahead of September 1, or June 1.
