Moreover, I have sworn fealty to our Lord the King aforesaid in these words: "I will be true and loyal, and bear myself faithfully and loyally, towards King Edward, King of England, and his heirs, with life and limb and earthly honour against all men, and will never bear arms against him, nor ever give aid or counsel against him or against his heirs, for any man in any case that may arise, So help me God and the Saints." In witness whereof I have caused these letters, sealed with my seal, to be made patent. Given at Berwick-upon-Tweed the 28th day of August in the twenty-fourth year of the reign of our Lord the King of England aforesaid. All and singular the above-written things were done as premised in the year, indiction, months, days, and places afore mentioned in the presence of the above-named witnesses, and a great number of others as well knights and ecclesiastics as laymen.
