Formerly in the department of English Language at Glasgow University, UK, he directed the Scottish Corpus of Texts and Speech and the Corpus of Modern Scottish Writing.He is the co-author ofBeginning Old English with Carole Hough (Palgrave, 2006) and has written widely on language and education.
