Architecture, democracy, the Olympics--the modern world owes a lot to the ancient Greeks! In Explore Greek Myths! With 25 Great Projects, readers embark on a fascinating journey to explore the myths that infused ancient Greek culture, civilization, and innovation. Readers will learn how these myths, popular more than 3,000 years ago, have provided fundamental support to today's art, architecture, mathematics, science, philosophy, literature, and government. Readers will read about the adventures of many Greek gods, such as Zeus, who could throw lightning bolts and Athena, who personally protected the city of Athens. Readers will also meet great heroes, including the mighty Heracles, Perseus, who freed a princess chained to a rock, and Odysseus, who battled with a one-eyed giant called a Cyclopes. These characters and creatures serve to both entertain and offer lessons in morality, while also explaining the natural phenomenon that the ancient Greeks had no scientific explanation for. The lively text, surprising fun facts, jokes, and colorful illustrations encourage children to explore Greek mythology and make connections to our modern culture and language.
Hands-on activities include making a topographical map of ancient Greece and designing Greek columns, while links to online primary sources encourage readers to explore the topic independently.

Review quote

Praise for Explore Greek Myths! School Library "A jam-packed, informative title on ancient Greek myths. Yasuda isn't just retelling the old familiar tales. Instead, she has placed the myths in context so that each chapter is a different exploration of ancient Greek life and culture... VERDICT An additional purchase for libraries, but useful for classrooms studying ancient Greek history and mythology." Praise for other titles by Anita Yasuda: Explore Native American Cultures! School Library Journal "... A wide range of ages will be able to take something away from this entertaining and useful title. " Explore Natural Resources! National Science Teachers Association "... a required science resource... the perfect activity book to instruct and demonstrate the immediate interconnectedness humans have with natural resources and the world." Explore the Wild West! 2012 Gold Moonbeam Award School Library Journal "Entertaining and informative. This is a useful and engaging introductory overview of the Wild West." Explore Simple Machines! Booklist "Yasuda writes in particularly clear, simple language, and intersperses her explanations with historical notes, jokes, and 25 easy projects ... She also repeatedly urges readers to spot and classify the simple machines that are all around, encourages the use of a science notebook, and closes her discourse with descriptions of what inventors and engineers do." Explore Water! School Library Journal "It's impossible to read this book and not turn off the water while you brush your teeth. Children will come away with obscure facts and broad understandings about this vital resource ..." Explore the Solar System! National Science Teachers Association "The inviting cover of this science book will attract the attention of young readers right from the start. This is a great book to entice young readers to read more and learn a little science along the way."
