A first class toolbox for managers, would-be managers, students and the self employed with clear headings, easily absorbed information and helpful illustrations. It's a self-taught course in itself, for a fraction of the cost of even a one day business seminar. The book is structured into twelve sections containing numbered sub-headings. Each takes a topic such as 'Communicating Clearly', 'Managing Meetings', 'Managing Teams' & 'Delegating Successfully'. Self-analysis exercises enable readers to assess their own performance as they work their way through. A certain level of attainment is taken for granted - that one already knows the mechanics of e-mails, video-conferencing, etc. Some topics are also covered in greater depth than others. The tough assignment for a first-timer of 'Putting on a Conference' is given only one page and the section on 'Interviewing' neglects to discuss the growing popularity of the Competency Based Interview. However, the majority of the sections, especially those on 'Minimizing Stress', 'Compiling Reports'. 'Writing Proposals' and 'Preparing a Presentation' are detailed and thorough. The latter even includes advice on how to deal with awkward questions, a subject most other books on the subject fail to cover.
